PROJECT DETAILS

The NC project, started in the second quarter of 2012, was the second project started at SITC. The project required SITC to develop programs that ran computer numerically controlled machines used in the manufacturing plants of Saab. Saab provided the details of the components that were to be machined and programs had to be generated for these. The process consisted of generating commands on a computer system using computer aided manufacturing software – CATIA. These CATIA commands were migrated into machine readable format using a compiler tool. The output from this compiler tool was validated on a simulation tool – VERICUT. The output from VERICUT was studied for any excess material, tool dig, etc. and delivered to Saab. The main task was to optimize the machining process to save machining time and maintain the required quality parameters. (Refer Exhibit I)...

All these corrective steps starting showing results and the number of rejections started coming down. Now, one part was getting rejected after machining for every ten parts delivered. With the rejections coming down, NRC started showing improvements and started moving toward 120%. ..

FINAL FRONTIER

In the third quarter of 2015, one day in the morning, Raghav was contacted by Johan on the official messenger. Raghav was surprised as it would be very early in Sweden and he realized that it could be very important. ...

THE ROAD AHEAD

This project gave a few important insights to TechM into the importance of cultural learning. It also highlighted the importance of putting the right people in customer facing positions, the importance of cross-learning, and customer feedback....
